From April 4 to November 30, 2024, the exhibition "Christo Stefanoff, Forgotten Painter of War and Peace" will be held at the Maczek Memorial Breda. As part of this exhibition, Frans Wauters will give a lecture on the life of the Polish painter Stefanoff, his time in Breda and his connection with the Poles. A solid background is also provided for the works shown in the exhibition.
Professor Christo Stefanoff came to Breda in 1946 with the 1st Polish Armoured Division from Maczek. During his years in Breda, this Polish painter created a number of powerful images of the courageous heroic deeds of Polish citizens and soldiers during the Second World War. The exhibition shows the most important works.
Frans Wauters was born in Breda under a painting by Stefanoff and grew up among his works. Stefanoff lived with Frans' (grand)parents in Breda for a while after the war and paid for his board and lodging with paintings during that time.
Frans has been researching the life and work of Stefanoff for two years, has visited Stefanoff's old studio in Canada, is working on an extensive biography, collects and catalogues his work and is the founder and chairman of the Christo Stefanoff Foundation.
