The concrete blocks (in German: Höckerhindernisse), located next to Herenweg 271, were placed here during the Second World War to block the road to Allied tanks. This position formed the northern section of the Castricum strongpoint group. Behind it, in the polder, lay a tank ditch that further obstructed tank movement. The blocks were relatively easy to build and served as an additional obstacle — Allied tanks would become stuck on them, unable to advance toward other defensive positions.
After the war, many of these dragon’s teeth remained in place, and in Egmond aan den Hoef they can still be clearly recognized in the landscape today.
