On the former Midden-Herenduin estate lies a tank ditch that was part of the defensive structures intended to stop Allied forces. The water was meant to block or at least slow down Allied tanks during a possible invasion. In this part of the landscape, German soldiers could make effective use of a water obstacle, unlike in other terrains where such defenses were harder to create.
Today, the tank ditch is still recognizable as a water-filled trench, often inhabited by waterfowl.
