The main “stützpunkt” was the Stellung Zander, located near the Tilanuspad. This was a large radar center. Surrounding it were 150 bunkers connected by trenches. Defensive obstacles were also installed, similar to those in the Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes, which encircled the defensive area. The construction was designed to defend against both a sea-based invasion and an attack from the land.
The Batterij Zuidrand was located north of the Zander and consisted of 80 bunkers. The clubhouse of the Golf and Country Club was repurposed as the headquarters of the Wehrmacht, with 130 bunkers built around it.
Due to all this construction, Zandvoort’s luxury boulevard lost many villas, holiday homes, shops, and hotels. The German army demolished these buildings for the Atlantikwall and to prevent enemies from using them as cover.
