The advance to Zevenaar

On the morning of 2 April 1945, the Regina Rifle Regiment battalion liberated Wehl. Nearby were the First Canadian Scottish Regiment and the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, all three part of the 7th Canadian Infantry Brigade.

Shortly after noon, the commanders of the latter two battalions received orders to advance towards Didam and Zevenaar. On 3 April, the Royal Winnipeg Rifles moved out in armoured tracked vehicles, travelling from Loil through Didam town centre and along the Tatelaarweg towards Zevenaar.Didam was liberated before dawn, followed a few hours later by Zevenaar. After these operations, the three Canadian battalions paused briefly for rest. On 4 April, they returned towards Zutphen to rejoin the 7th Canadian Infantry Brigade.
