A hospital in the line of fire

Until 1974, the General Hospital stood on the site where Sutfene–De Lunette is now located. In the final months of the war, the hospital found itself in the line of fire during the fighting around Zutphen.

Despite extremely difficult conditions, including bombings, gunfire, and a severe shortage of medical supplies, the hospital remained operational. Many wounded were treated here: civilians, German soldiers, and later, Canadian liberators.
