MacLean Bridge - Emmerich

On April 5, 1945, the MacLean Bridge, built by Canadian engineers, was opened.

The bridge was a so-called high-level bridge (a flood-resistant Bailey bridge on pontoons), designed to carry 40 tons, and was located directly downstream from the port of Emmerich on the Rhine. The bridge was named after the former Chief Engineer of the First Canadian Army, Brigadier General A.T. MacLean.
