Since 2015, this plaque in Colmschate has served as a reminder of the liberation. The names of 46 Canadians who died in the Colmschate area between 5 and 11, April 1945, are listed on the plaque. Additionally, there is a map showing the route of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division (The Royal Winnipeg Rifles, The Regina Rifle Regiment, and The Canadian Scottish Regiment, supported by The Queen's Own Rifles).
Besides the liberation, the local resistance is also highlighted. The memorial plaque closes with the following text:
PAUSE FOR A MOMENT IN TIMES OF PEACE
FREEDOM IS NOT A GIVEN
The plaque was unveiled on 8 April 2015, by Mayor Heidema of the municipality of Deventer and Colonel M. Hogan of the Canadian Embassy. In 2023, residents initiated an annual commemorative ceremony at this location, held on the date Colmschate was liberated.
