Paraloup means ‘sheltered from the wolves’ in the local Occitan language. This hamlet was home to shepherds and flocks for centuries and, during the Resistance, was home to the partisan band Italia Libera, of the Justice and Freedom formations, which has grown up to 149 volunteers, with an average age of 20.
After a long period of depopulation, today it is a regenerated and regenerating cultural centre in which to experience a welcoming, supportive and sustainable community.
The Nuto Revelli Foundation has recovered Paraloup to make it a workshop of active memory. In this Borgata you can find:
The Museum of Tales: a permanent multimedia room, The Seasons of Paraloup, and a room for temporary exhibitions
The Film Library of the Resistance: over ninety titles of films and documentaries on war and Resistance
The Nuto Revelli Library: a library on the themes of mountains, architecture and Resistance
The Theatre at High Altitude: a stage overlooking the Maritime Alps with 200 places to seat
The Anello Forte Workshop for the memory of women
A coworking space
The Borgata welcomes its visitors with a refreshment centre and two guest lodges where they can regenerate body and spirit while respecting typical local production chains and reconciling tradition and innovation. We welcome individuals, families, groups, schools, companies.
