Memorial stall

Among the many people in hiding were also Rotterdam children who had to flee after the 1940 bombing. In gratitude for that hospitality, the Reformed Church of Kralingen donated a memorial frame.

It is placed in the front facade of the Oosterkerk on Oosterkerkstraat 2, above the entrance (just 100 metres to the right). The window incorporates many scenes from the war years. You see people asking for help and people giving help. You see Germans trampling everything in their path and a ploughing farmer with searchlights and bombers in the background. The man with the trowel symbolises reconstruction.

The left-hand side window is a gift from Scheveningen's Reformed Church in gratitude for housing their evacuees. It also includes the municipal coat of arms of The Hague. Other city arms incorporated are those of Rotterdam, Utrecht and Amsterdam, where important donations also came from. The Star of David symbolises the gift of the grateful Jewish community.
