Haslar Royal Naval Cemetery
Haslar Royal Naval Cemetery contains 1,359 burials, of which 611 are from the Second World War. The graves are maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The cemetery is close to the Haslar Naval Hospital, to which it was originally attached, and to the airfields of Gosport and Lee-on-Solent. Access to the cemetery can be gained via Clayhill Road, Gosport.
The Second World War burials are mainly British, but the cemetery also contains graves of war casualties from New Zealand, Australia, Poland, Canada, France, Portugal and the Netherlands.
A group of Wrens (Women's Royal Naval Service) who were killed on 23 November 1940 are also buried here together. A stray anti-aircraft round hit their billet during a bombing raid, killing 10 women instantly.
