Reclaiming Remembrance

5/8/2025

5/9/2025

On the grounds of the Treptow Memorial, the “Remembrance against War” alliance is offering a meeting place for anyone who wants to reflect on the culture of remembrance in relation to the Second World War in times of Russia's ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine: with exhibitions, multilingual guided tours, music, readings, speeches, an interactive remembrance room and many opportunities for discussion. How did it come about that Russia, the legal successor to the Soviet Union, one of the victorious countries in the fight against German fascism 80 years ago, is itself a fascist dictatorship today? In order to answer this question, we must take a close look at history: reappraise its dark chapters, deconstruct propagandistic falsifications, bring to light what has long been covered up and concealed. Our aim is: - to make visitors to the memorial aware of and experience the historical significance of this date and this place in the context of current events, - to inform visitors to the memorial about the crimes of the Soviet and Russian regimes and their connections with the current war in Ukraine.
