Soldiers of the Battalion Liberation - 5 Line from Belgium commemorate the liberation of the white town in 1944 together with the residents of Thorn on 19 September 2024. The battalion is the successor to Brigade Piron, the Belgian unit that crossed the border near Thorn in September 1944 and drove out the German occupiers.

18:00 Start of ceremony on Beekstraat, commemoration and wreath laying.
18:30 Commemoration of military victims at monument on the Kerkberg
Speeches by the chairman of the foundation, the commander of the Battalion
Liberation - 5 Line and handing over the care of the monument to group 7 primary school de Koningsspil Thorn
19:00 Commemoration of civilian victims at monument on the Wijngaard
Speeches by the chairman of the foundation and the mayor of the Maasgouw municipality
Wreath laying and flower tributes by the relatives of the civilian victims followed by a moment of silence.
20:00 The parade is back! For the celebration of 80 years of liberation, the parade has been reinstated, with the participation of Battalion 5-Mei Line, veterans, Koninklijke Harmonie Thorn, Schutterij Sint Ansfried & Sint Michael, historical vehicles
On Saturday 21 September, the people of Thorn will celebrate the liberation with all sorts of activities. For instance, the Wounded Warriors Cycling Team foundation will cycle part of the Brigade Piron route. The cycling team will finish in Thorn on Saturday afternoon. Anyone can participate in that ride.
