This gripping performance is inspired by the true story of the Eindhoven girl Marietje during World War II. The monologue is performed in the reconstructed barrack on the camp site.

Actress Juul Vrijdag (pictured) plays the monologue (directed by Madeleine Matzer). The beautiful visual text by writer Peer Wittenbols - inspired by his mother's life story - makes the life of a child during the war palpable.

The stone in my mouth is inspired by the life story of the Eindhoven girl Marietje during World War II. She was nine when the war started, she was 14 when the south of the Netherlands was liberated. In those few years, a major drama unfolded in her family, after which her life would never be the same again.

Peer Wittenbols wrote the text, inspired by his mother's life story. He makes the life of a child during the war palpable. De steen in mijn mond is about loss, processing and forgiveness. But also about resilience thanks to sobriety, humour and an iron faith in the goodness of fellow human beings.

The Stone in my Mouth is a production by MATZER, the house company of De Verkadefabriek in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
