The first memorial service took place back in 1945 and was shaped by the Commander of the 1st Airborne Division, Major General R.E. Urquhart, in cooperation with the acting Mayor of Renkum, Mr J. ter Horst, Rev Ph. Bergkotte and Father R.F. Dijker. Since that first commemoration, the content of the gathering has not changed. The same applies to the involvement of the school children. Since 1945, they have laid flowers on the graves during the service. Their gesture still makes a big impression on those present. The Airborne Memorial Service can be visited by anyone free of charge.
