Thull Explosion Monument
Two months after the liberation, the beautiful countryside around Thull and the Muldersplas was the scene of a tragedy. Near the monument, two young men and six children were killed on 24 November 1944. They had discovered an abandoned quantity of ammunition in a field. While they were busy loading the ammunition on a cart, everything exploded. All eight of them lost their lives.
The victims are buried in a collective grave in the Roman Catholic cemetery of Schinnen. A stone with a plaque bearing the names of the victims was initially erected at the site of the explosion. The monument was moved some distance in 2013. Since then, it has been part of a larger monument that includes eight large boulders: one for each victim and a poem.
