Widerstandsnest Eschwege Ritthem

Ritthem was given the name Widerstandsnest Eschwege by the German forces. From this period, two troop bunkers of the type 502 can still be found.

The bunker at Louwerse’s Wegeling has a reinforced concrete wall protecting the entrance side. The other bunker stands on a farmyard along the Rammekensweg.

Due to the dike bombing of 7 October 1944, west of Fort Rammekens, the village and its defensive structures were flooded later that same day.
