Museumbunker Seeziel Battery

In Julianadorp, along the Zanddijk, lies the M219 Bunker Museum. Housed in a former bunker, the museum offers insight into the defensive structures that once surrounded this area.

As part of the Atlantikwall, two large bunkers were constructed here as part of Batterij Zanddijk. Each was 10 meters high and equipped with a twin gun turret. Some of the weaponry originated from the battlecruiser Gneisenau. However, the bunkers were never put into use — the war ended before they could be completed.

After the war, the bunkers fell into disrepair. From 2014 onwards, one of them was restored and converted into a museum with support from the Stichting Stelling Den Helder. The other bunker still serves as a lookout point.

The M219 Bunker Museum, located near the beach entrance “De Zandloper,” can be visited by appointment and is generally open on Saturdays.
