Küverbunker 451a

At the edge of the landfront of Festung IJmuiden stood Küverbunker 451a. The bunker accommodated twelve German soldiers and had an officers’ room for two officers. The quarters were connected to another small bunker (the Tobruk) via an underground trench measuring 60 meters in length.

In 2012, the bunker was excavated and restored, with efforts made to recreate the interior authentically as it appeared during the Second World War. Since then, the structure has been open to the public and provides insights into wartime life—both inside the bunkers and for the local population of Wijk aan Zee. Notably, some original German wall inscriptions are still visible inside the bunker.
