Among these were two personnel bunkers: the Manschappenbunker M151 and Manschappenbunker 621. The M151 was the largest, accommodating 28 men, while the 621 had space for eight people.
These shelters served as personnel bunkers for a nearby radar bunker. The Radarbunker V143 featured a radar screen, which was read inside the bunker to gather information about both friendly and enemy aircraft. Only two of this type existed in the Netherlands: the Mammut radar bunkers.
The German forces were highly committed to protecting the port of IJmuiden. For the residents of Wijk aan Zee, this meant evacuation from the area, giving priority to the construction of the Atlantikwall.
