Sheltering at Voshuttedijk 6

This was once the home of the Orriëns-Rots family, who provided temporary shelter to several individuals attempting to escape the clutches of the German occupiers.

The two most well-known were Hanson and Cheeseman, who were brought to the Orriëns family farm by Henk Hulshof and Hendrik Leemreize. On the night of 8 February 1945, they bailed out of a burning Lancaster bomber, which crashed shortly afterwards on Boschlaan. Hanson later described their time in hiding in detail in his book Sprong in het Duister (“Leap into the Dark”).
