Resistance monument in Stegeren

Behind camping Huttopia De Roos flows the Overijsselse Vecht. On the other side of this river lies the hamlet of Stegeren with the Stegerenseveld — a remote piece of nature that served as a dropping location during the war. A large glacial boulder stands as a monument, reminding passers-by of the activities of the Salland resistance group that was active in the Ommen area.

From August 1944 onwards, the Vroomshoop resistance group used the natural area (code name: Evert) near the village of Stegeren as a drop zone. Around fourteen drops took place here, consisting of containers with weapons and other supplies. The resistance members distributed these materials and transported them to addresses in Twente, Deventer, and further inland. In addition, nine secret agents were dropped here in 1944–1945. The resistance group received these Allied agents and placed them in hiding.

The group numbered around twelve members and was led by Captain A.F. Lancker. They hid in the surrounding area, and thanks in part to the silence and cooperation of the local population, the group was never discovered by the German occupiers.

A monument was placed here in 1985, and it was renewed in 2025.
