For a long time, the bell lay in the Gildekapel ('Guild Chapel'). Chairman Martien van Hemmen of the Exodus Committee and 'guild general' Jan Wannet made sure the bell would see daylight again.
The monument shows the bell lying on rubble, in reference to the massive destruction in Huissen during the war. On its four sides is text referring to D-Day, Operation Market Garden, the bombing of Huissen (on 2 October 1944) and the bell itself.
